About Us
At BRFMedicine, our purpose is clear—to bring hope, healing, and answers to families navigating autism, ADHD, and related conditions. We believe every child carries unique potential, and every family deserves both compassion and real solutions.
Founded by Mariam Sangobanwo, Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner, Certified Biomedical Autism Specialist, and Certified Functional Nutritionist, BRFMedicine integrates the strengths of conventional medicine with functional and integrative approaches. With empathy and expertise, we look beyond symptoms to identify root causes and design personalized care that empowers children and their families.
Our mission is to restore confidence and clarity for families raising neurodivergent children by creating research-informed, individualized care plans that honor each child’s path to growth and wellness.

The truth behind common myths
Myth vs. Fact: Autism & ADHD
- Myth: Autism and ADHD are only behavioral or psychological disorders.
- Fact: Research shows that both conditions often have biological underpinnings—such as gut imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial dysfunction, and toxin exposures. Functional medicine identifies and addresses these root causes, not just the outward behaviors.
- Myth: There’s nothing more you can do beyond therapy or medication.
- Fact: While therapy and medications can help, they do not uncover why symptoms occur. Functional medicine digs deeper into factors like inflammation, diet, sleep, and detox pathways, giving families new avenues for progress and healing.
- Myth: Diet doesn’t impact autism or ADHD.
- Fact: Foods and nutrients directly affect the gut, brain chemistry, and immune system. For example, eliminating certain triggers or replenishing deficiencies (like zinc, magnesium, and B vitamins) can improve focus, speech, sleep, and mood.
- Myth: All children with autism and ADHD will respond the same way to treatment.
- Fact: Every child’s biology is unique. Functional medicine creates personalized care plans tailored to genetics, gut health, environment, and lifestyle—ensuring the best chance for real progress.
- Myth: Improvements are only temporary.
- Fact: When the underlying imbalances are addressed, many children experience lasting gains in areas like attention, speech, emotional regulation, and overall quality of life. Functional medicine is designed to support sustainable healing.

From Questions to Clarity
“Why is my child still struggling? Why aren’t therapies enough? Why does it feel like something deeper is being missed?”
At BRFMedicine, we understand the weight of these questions. Our approach looks deeper—examining the gut, brain, immune system, and environment—to uncover the root causes that are often overlooked. With real answers comes direction, and with direction comes hope.

What Studies Show
Research consistently links autism and ADHD with underlying biomedical factors. Studies highlight that children with these conditions often experience gut microbiome imbalances, chronic inflammation, immune dysregulation, and nutrient deficiencies. These biological challenges can affect brain function, mood, focus, and behavior, showing that neurodevelopment is closely connected to overall health.
Children with autism often struggle with gut issues. Research shows that addressing intestinal dysbiosis can improve not only digestion but also irritability and social interaction.

Studies show that correcting nutrient deficiencies can improve attention, mood, and behavior in children with ADHD

Children with autism often experience gut issues such as microbial imbalances and leaky gut. Research shows that addressing these can reduce gastrointestinal symptoms and improve behavior.

Reducing exposure to toxins like heavy metals and pesticides has been associated with improved outcomes in children with neurodevelopmental conditions.
