Mitochondrial and Energy Support

Mitochondrial and Energy Support

Mitochondria are the “powerhouses” of the cells, responsible for producing the energy every organ and system in the body relies on. When mitochondrial function is disrupted, children may struggle with fatigue, poor endurance, developmental delays, or difficulties with focus and learning. Because energy is essential for growth and brain function, supporting mitochondrial health is a vital part of helping children thrive.

Challenges Often Seen with Mitochondrial Imbalances

  • Low Energy and Fatigue –tires easily, struggles to keep up with peers
  • Developmental Delays –/span>slower progress in speech, movement, or milestones
  • Poor Muscle Tone or Weakness –low endurance during physical activities
  • Sleep Disturbances – difficulty falling or staying asleep, impacting recovery
  • Behavioral and Emotional Changes – irritability or meltdowns when energy is depleted

These signs often reflect cellular energy deficits that ripple out to affect the brain, muscles, and immune system.

Our Approach at BRFMedicine

At BRFMedicine, we recognize that mitochondrial function is influenced by multiple factors—including nutrient deficiencies, toxin exposure, chronic infections, gut imbalances, and oxidative stress. Using the best of integrative and functional medicine, we work to uncover what is impairing energy production and create a plan to restore balance.

  •  Comprehensive Testing – evaluating markers of mitochondrial health, oxidative stress, and nutrient utilization
  • Optimizing Nutrient Support– ensuring cells have the building blocks they need for energy production and repair
  • Reducing Oxidative Stress –calming the damage caused by free radicals that weaken mitochondria
  • Detoxification Pathways – improving the body’s ability to clear toxins that can block energy production
  • Gut-Brain-Immune Balance – addressing gut imbalances, infections, or immune triggers that place extra strain on mitochondria

By restoring mitochondrial function, we help children rebuild the energy needed for growth, learning, and resilience.

How We Can Help

Supporting mitochondrial health can make a profound difference in how a child feels and functions each day. Families often notice:

  • Improved energy and stamina
  • Greater focus and cognitive clarity
  • Progress in developmental milestones
  • Better sleep and recovery
  • More stable mood and emotional regulation
  • Increased resilience in daily activities

At BRFMedicine, our focus is on restoring healthy energy production at the cellular level, giving children the support they need for growth, learning, and resilience.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Please complete the new patient intake forms, questionnaires listed on the patient portal. (see link on website). Based on the reason for your visit, you may be asked to complete other forms to help prepare for the visit. We request that you complete the paperwork at least 5 days prior to your appointment.

How are naturopathic doctors educated, trained, and licensed?

In addition to a standard medical curriculum, schools require their graduates to complete four years of training in disciplines such as clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, physical medicine, counseling, acupuncture, and homeopathic medicine.

Does Naturopathic Medicine have scientific support?

Yes, the practice of Naturopathic Medicine relies on both empirical evidence and modern scientific research. The scientific basis of Naturopathic practice is growing, with toxicological evidence and randomized clinical trials showing that treatments are safe and effective.

Are all natural therapies safe?

No, not all natural therapies are safe for all people. Certain diets, supplements and forms of exercise are not safe or appropriate for individuals depending on health concerns or on the current use of certain medications.

Do you work with medical doctors?

Yes, I frequently collaborate with medical doctors to determine the best approach the care of our patients.
